WAS A BE – Brainstorm EP

The hotly tipped Italian duo Was A Be follow up last year’s brilliant ‘Blind EP’ with what’s not only their first release of the 2017 but also their first release since signing exclusively with Shogun Audio. The incredible ‘Brainstorm EP’ follows suit with fours tracks of future D&B spanning half-time to hybrid 4/4 bass music. Sure to raise eye-brows, Was A Be are here to stay.

“This release has been a whole new challenge for us. After the Blind EP, we felt a need to do something different, more solid, more worthy to be on Shogun. It’s an evolution of our sound, not a repetition of our previous work, changing the patterns and also creating something that really belongs to us, based on our vast music taste which has a heavy impact on our production.

In this EP you’ll find 4 different styles of 85/170 music: from the hip-hop inflected ‘Plateau’ to the deep rolling ‘Brainstorm’, then onto the compulsive ‘Hypnos’ and proper dance floor footwork/juke workout ‘Jamming’. This is what we’re feeling right now and it’s also how we build our DJ sets, moving through different styles and genres….the key being never bore people! Hope you all enjoy it, we’ve lots more to come.” Was A Be 2017

Over the past few years Pola & Bryson have been working hard to make their mark, releasing their own exquisite take on drum & bass through the likes of Hospital Records, Liquicity and Spearhead, with their debut album arriving in 2016 on their very own Soulvent Records. Nominated at the end of last year in two categories at the D&B Arena Awards for ‘Best Newcomer (Producers)’ and ‘Best New Label (Soulvent), it was a pivotal year for Jack & Harry. Now their new chapter begins….

“It’s official! So happy to announce that we’ve now signed exclusively with Shogun Audio! When we first met with the Shogun team we had a usb loaded with a LOT of new demos, picking just 4 of these was a tough task but we honed it down into our debut ‘Find Your Way’ EP.

The title track features our good friend Charlotte Haining who we’ve wanted to work with for a long time. The one thing we’ve always wanted to write was a big, epic ‘set opener’ and this one does exactly that, really setting the tone of the EP. ‘Monument’ originally started out as a chilled liquid roller but somehow morphed into a more dance floor track overnight and the tracks ‘Phantom’ & ‘Moment’s Notice’ are more chilled, showcasing our liquid vibe.

We can’t wait to get this one out there, enjoy the music! Much more to come from us in 2017!” Pola & Bryson

“Here are four slices of synthethic soul written over the last year in my San Francisco studio. Curated by Friction and featuring some usual suspects on vocal duties, I tried to move forward with my brand of warm D&B for my third release on SGN:LTD. Vibes ranging from uplifting to melancholy, this is a reflection of where I’m at currently. Hope people enjoy!” Submorphics 2017

Long time regular label guests Ulterior Motive take a break from their Metalheadz duties to deliver their first ever solo release for Shogun Audio, ‘The Real EP’. Drawing across the deep rolls of the title track featuring Pendulum’s Verse on vocals to the liquid gold of ‘I Remember’ through to the proper riddims of ‘Jungle Jam’, Ulterior Motive yet again demonstrate their formidable production styles that have seen them become one the most sought after drum & bass artists in the scene today.

“’The Real EP’ is our first solo project since 2015 and our first ever solo release for Shogun. We really enjoy the diversity that an EP offers and wanted to showcase a wider spectrum of what we’ve been working on over the past 12 months.

We teamed up with Verse to bring back some of the blueprint UM sound with a modern twist. As always we like to look back to look forward, ‘The Real EP’ is a nod to the past as we look to the future.” Ulterior Motive 2016

After the success of their critically acclaimed second album ‘Better Perspective’ this summer which enjoyed endorsements from the likes of Mixmag, Friction, Annie Mac, Mistajam, Fabric, Resident Advisor and many more, Technimatic wind down the year with an unplugged EP featuring three of their stunning collaborators in full stripped back acoustic mode, perfect for that Sunday afternoon chill.

“One of the most enjoyable and rewarding aspects of making music is working with, and being inspired by, other creative people. We had the great fortune to collaborate with some incredibly talented singer/songwriters on our last album ‘Better Perspective’, three of whom feature here. Zara Kershaw, Lucy Kitchen and Jono McCleery brought more to the project than we ever could have hoped, and these live recordings demonstrate just how brilliant they are. We hope you love them as much as we do.” Technimatic 2016
