mako-how_do_you_feel_warm040Utopia Music label boss Mako is gracing Warm Communications again. He always brings something special to his releases when appearing on warm & this is no exception. “For Love Or Money” features long time friend to Mako “Section 63” who also part of dnb outfit The Sect. Uplifting intro alongside a female vocal build up the a-side to a heavy drop into rough breaks and punishing bass. Just how we like it! On the flip the aptly titled “The Shot Off” is a 2 step chugger perfect to set any dancefloor off while “How Do You Feel?” has that mysterious vibe Mako can pull off so well! Another diverse & refreshing release from one of the scene’s tastemakers.

Utopia 16

Forthcoming Release – Utopia Music 16 – 29th October 2014

Utopia 16
Utopia 16

Utopia Music 16 out 29.10.14
A. Break, Mako, Fields & Villem – Shadowlines
AA. Chromatic – Found You
Utopia’s 16th vinyl single brings label stalwart Break into the fold once again for a hard hitting roller that has been getting reactions all over the globe since it got leaked into the top DJ’s hands. The A side teams up the Symmetry boss with Utopia label honcho and recent Metalheadz addition Mako, with his long term partners Fields and Villem. The production and weight are unreal whilst retaining a woody rather than plastic aesthetic.

The flip sounds like a Lenzman classic but instead is brought to you by rising stars Chromatic. Growing in confidence, they have recently been releasing on Hype’s Playaz label and are producing quality dance floor bass lines without the need for the screechy mid range bass that has become so prevalent in modern drum and bass. Warm bass, beats and keys and no need for much else.

DLR, Mako & Fields – Old Soul / Bridge The Gap – 5th May 2014

DLR, Mako & Fields – Old Soul / Bridge The Gap – 5th May 2014 Utopia’s long anticipated 15th single brings forth DLR onto the label roster. The A side ‘Old Soul’ also combines the brotherhood of Mako and Fields and the results are delicious. A heavy homemade break joins together an intricate bass line with the touches of love that the label pushes. The second drop adds more vocal melodies and makes the tune more than just one for the dancefloor.

The B side is a stepped-out-rolled-out vibe with DLR taking the solo lead on this one. Naughty bass and a tight break keep the energy moving nicely.

Supported by Goldie, Doc Scott, Break, LTJ Bukem, Spectrasoul, Friction, Total Science and many esteemed others.

New Release Out Now – Mako – A Break From Ritual – Warm Comms

Mako – A Break From Ritual – Warm Comms – DEC 2013

Mako’s “A Break From Ritual” is a heavy-footed drum rush that has no confusion about its namesake. Apaches, Amens and Think breaks clatter seamlessly overtop a crushing two-step kick/snare darkly worshipping Photek’s classic MODUS OPERANDI track “Smoke Rings.” Heavier and unshy about his equally informed nods to noughties neurofunk, Mako does not mean to disappoint a single dance-floor with this one.

Borrowing a line from Billie Holiday, the homage continues as Mako’s “What a Little Moonlight Can Do” builds its dusky rhythm section from layered sixteenths, loads of chunky 1-2-3 percussion, and long, long reverb tails. Some of the A-side’s blue-chord high-passed pad sounds return, for a brief moment, taking us back to a smoke-filled barroom in the the 1930s—at least as far back as drum & bass can go. Don’t miss it.
