Makoto, a man who’s been instrumental in Japan’s drum & bass movement since the birth of the genre, now signed exclusively to Hospital Records presenting his fifth solo album ‘Salvation’. A perfect fit bringing that trademark sound across 14 tracks of authentic soul and rolling jazz inspirited drum & bass.

‘I Don’t Wanna Wake Up’ featuring the outstanding vocals of Karina Ramage is the perfect summertime roller. Delightfully hypnotic, this will be a staple selection for any DJ worth their salt over the coming months, catching its premiere on Huw Stephens’ BBC Radio 1 slot. Makoto also empowers Karina’s topline prowess on the hauntingly beautiful ‘Winds Of Change’.

Following suit, the vocally driven ‘Salvation’ ft DRS balances an elegant ambience with grittier elements, reaching its exclusive first play with BBC Radio 1 Resident Metrik. Switching to ‘Primitive Galaxy’ which focuses more on high-energy dancefloor impact but still with his distinctive bassline groove and melodic stabs. A jazzy riff takes the lead in ‘Fancy Free’ with celestial vocals and staccato drums, invoking a euphoric trance that all liquid tracks strive for getting its first play last week from BBC Radio 1’s Friction.

Already having an enriched history across Good Looking and his own imprint Human Elements, Makoto is a leader in the art of funk, soul and jazz entrenched drum & bass. Following his recent European tour Makoto will make a welcomed return to our shores this summer at Mysteryland, Lockdown Festival and Hospitality In The Park. He’ll also be hosting his own in-store album launch on Thursday 31st August at Hospital’s pop up shop at Soho Radio, in association with Jagermeister and AIM.

Hospital Records Releases ‘Ownglow – Inside The Silence EP’

Following his debut solo release, last year is Ownglow’s equally impressive and progressive ‘Inside The Silence’ EP. Four tracks deliver a personal portrayal of his transatlantic living with collaborations from recent riser Mitekiss, Oxfordshire’s electro duo Disco’s Over and vocalists Elle Vee and Courtney Odom.

‘Breathe’ matches up the methods of multi-genre movers Disco’s Over and the warm, natural vocals of Elle Vee, who brings a romantic essence with her pitch-perfect topline. A second collaborative effort with the illusive Mitekiss makes a trail down to deeper D+B levels in ‘Take Me’.

Ownglow’s hometown of Arizona is clearly a pool of talent with resident Courtney Odom bringing sultry vocals to the jazzy waves of ‘Mercy Me’. Finally, ‘Glo Mello Flo’ pairs playful hip-hop influences with a D+B tempo for a soulful summer soother.

Dive even further into the mind of 20-year old Ownglow with his self-created artwork. An old photograph with modern twist ties to the EP’s ethos of different perspectives and ideas coming together in a minimalist nature.

“Why if there is love, there are no words, inside the silence,” – that quote has stuck with me and I think it’s a fitting description for what this EP is – there would be no music without silence, and inside of that silence is something yearning to be heard.” – Ownglow

S.P.Y has been deep in his Bristol-based lab riling up a storm since the release of his killer double album ‘Back To Basics: Chapters 1+2’. His hard-drives are overflowing with sketches and scores, now he’s ready to rise from the shadows with a three-part drum & bass blast – ‘Alone In The Dark’.

EP:1 brings two distinct shades. Opener ‘Keep On Searching’ rolls deep with a signature S.P.Y bassline moving slowly across sultry vocal fragments. ‘Love Unlimited’ brings uplifting summer warmth with an inviting male vocal lead, set and ready for festival season.

A ragga vocal throws back to jungle roots in ‘Soldier’, this alongside ‘Black Ops’ makes two surefire weapons for recruiting the early morning D+B troops. Title track ‘Alone In The Dark’ is a definitive room-filler bringing weighty bass, punchy percussions and a menacing synth line, assassinating anyone in his path.

A man entirely dedicated to his craft, S.P.Y represents leading D+B imprint Hospital Records pushing the depths of the underground sounds with class and consistency. Already support has streamed in from the scene’s best, including worldwide drum & bass executioner and Beats1 resident Andy C. He’s quickly become the go-to man for hard hitting dancefloor remixes; Sigma, Karen Harding, KDA & Tinashe, Rag & Bone Man, Maverick Sabre & more.
