The first Free Love Digi release for duo Basic Biology probably sounds something like the deep dreams of label boss and notorious musical nomad Quentin Hiatus – it’s easy to see how he got on board with them.
One half of the production pair is Thomas B, who has numerous FLD releases behind him already, and this time around he has a new pseudonym and a partner behind the controls in the form of Matthew Cassidy.
‘Twilight’ and ‘Sensational’ are up there with the mellowest tracks on the label and are both gorgeous, although still propulsive. Megan McKay lends her vocals to the cause and the result is two left-field bass cuts with the airy mysticism to fit into the 4am wind-down as well as the beats to still knock persistently.

Quentin Hiatus takes a trip away from his futuristic Free Love Digi label for a blinding release on none60.
For this one the American producer showcases both sides of his mind-expanding production skills – ‘Clever Girl’ is an uplifting drum & bass led by an addictive synth line and pushed forward by neatly chopped breaks while on the flip ‘Orange Dreams’ is dark, claustrophobic and technical, all tight percussion and prowling atmospherics.
The release is the 26th on Fade’s none60 imprint and has received rave reviews across the scene since its February 16th release. Listen below or head here to buy.
More beautiful sounds are coming from the Free Love Digi camp, this time courtesy of Dutch producer Nuaru, who debuts on the label with the Like In A Dream EP.
The two-track release showcases the producer’s expansive vision – this loose take on half-time drum & bass is a world away from the punk rock and metal bands of his youth. The title track is mesmerising, with dream-like sweeps set over a rock-solid beat, while on the flip ‘She Blends In With The Ocean’ is a cinematic blast of fizzing bass and chopped vocals.
Known for his explosive live shows, Nauru played his first show at the Amsterdam Dance Event three years ago. He since signed to Basserk Records for a series of releases exploring different realms of low frequency centered sounds, while seeing his tracks featured on different labels and compilations alongside artists like Deon Custom, Arts the Beatdoctor and Pete Philly.

Thomas B is back with another set of brooding halftime and menacing low frequencies as he returns to American label Free Love Digi for the four-track Augmented Place EP.
It’s safe to say that the prolific Arizona producer feels at home on Quentin Hiatus’ imprint, where he long ago arrived at double figures for tracks released, and on his latest effort things are kept tight, dark and expressive.
The EP is heavily focused on bassweight, with the stripped-back arrangements pushing the emotional content of the music, but the wonky basses of ‘Straat’ and the breakbeat work on the title track keep the record moving on through the dream state.

French production duo Kantyze give it both barrels on their Free Love Digi debut, the powerful Mutation LP.
Fusing twisted synth sounds, bludgeoning basslines and stomping drums into thoughtful, atmospheric and genuinely artistic music, a formidable amount of ground is covered over the course of the record’s nine tracks.
Drum & bass delivered with half-time rhythms, the cacophonous swagger peaks on tracks like ‘Expanse’ and ‘Kyber’, but each cut drips with a different flavour.
The Kantyze project is the work of Feubo and Knockoutz, who have spent the last 20 years deeply immersed in the French bass music scene.
