MIZO-Dust Devil EP [Eatbrain]

Deep within the shifting sands lay the remains of a once great city, a monument to the hubris of those who had once thought they could conquer the indomitable forces of the planet. To hold back the everpresent encroachment of the dunes they had raised walls of great heights, built upon the sacrifice of those least fortunate among them, those condemned to work beneath the blistering heat of the land. It was through their blood that the city was built, through their blood that the fortunate lived in such an otherwise inhospitable climate. As the death of these sacrifices increased however, they bore new life elsewhere. Their blood, seeping through the cracked desert soil, awakened something long since sealed away.

Fed by their misery, the creature’s power grew beneath the dunes. For each that fell it became stronger, its hunger rising as it tasted more and more that which had been denied to it for so long. Upon the night of the sun’s peak it rose, driven by the heat that still radiated from the earth. It was a malstrom of sand, fire, and bone, an amalgamation of destruction which surged across the landscape. What little life there was in this desolate place was subsumed into its maw, becoming a part of the dynamo which swept towards the city. Its winds battered against the walls, grinding their stones to dust which only furthered the creature’s power. In minutes it had broken through, and as the city was swallowed within the vortex the DUST DEVIL reclaimed for the desert what was its own once again.

MIZO returns to EATBRAIN with the release of DUST DEVIL, a five track EP featuring collaborations with TRILO & CHASER. DOUBLE RUSH features the powerful combination of MIZO & CHASER, as well as the combination of a frantic topline and charging bass which work together to move the track forwards at a rapid pace. DUST DEVIL whips this dynamic energy into a further frenzy as its basses whirl with unrestrained fury atop a devastating drumbeat. While the gradual approach of HORIZON grows to become a steady lock-step rhythm that soars with effortless aptitude over its arpeggiated bassline, MIZO & TRILO’s ARTIFICIAL NOISE takes a different approach as it leaps into the musical melee, bolstered by the power of its roaring synths. The second collaboration with CHASER, CONTACTLESS, closes the EP, its desolate soundscape quickly transformed into a tech filled groove that rides upon its rolling sub and the strange shiftings of its tonal topline synths. Backed by the powerful Eatbrain platform, DUST DEVIL is sure to soar across the sonic landscape for quite some time.

Tide- Cloak & Dagger EP [Locked Concept]

TIDE returns to LOCKED CONCEPT with the follow up to his CLAPPER//FEVER EP released on the label in February of 2018 with widespread support, even featuring on Noisia’s radio show. Entitled CLOAK & DAGGER, the EP sees TIDE expanding on the themes of his previous LOCKED CONCEPT release as he delivers four sharp edged cuts imbued with his acute sound, including a VIP mix of the much loved CLAPPER from his previous release on the label.

CLOAK & DAGGER provides a classic slice of jungle as the EP’s basis, its nostalgic style accentuated by modern production which subtly places the track in a timeless realm. STAUNCH BEAT fulfills its name as its precise and powerful beat stomps forwards through a cold atmosphere inhabited only by a distant bass and the interjections of a bold vocal sample. CLAPPER VIP builds upon its predecessor, slowing the former’s frantic pace to a half-time measure punctuated by the methodical hits of a distorted snare before setting once more into a familiar flurry of claps and rapid four beat kicks. The syncopated drums of WAR close the EP as they ring out across a dark soundscape, wherein kickdrums burst with explosive energy in tandem with a sibilant bassline.

With the CLOAK & DAGGER EP, TIDE continues to pursue his singularly stripped down sound, crafting it with precise focus across four tracks which each embody one of its facets. With LOCKED CONCEPT’s similar commitment to uniquely defined audio sequences, such a combination is one sure to surge forth once more onto a multitude of sonic shores.

Redpill- Lunch Time EP [Eatbrain]

Most people don’t think too much about their food. It’s understandable really, we humans as a species don’t like to think when we’re hungry. After all, that’s energy that could be spent chowing down on whatever happens to be put in front of us at the time. There’s something special about food and what it does to our brain, how happy it makes us to do such a simple thing as refueling our bodies. Everyone’s got their favorites, delectable delicacies of which they just can’t get enough. All of these preferences are all well and good, but I must confess that I consider them a bit inferior. I am of course a connoisseur for whom only the best will do, not only just for dinner but for lunch and breakfast too.

As far back as I can remember I’ve always craved new tastes, new flavors to excite my tongue and make my heartbeat race. As a child I loved the usual things like candy and dessert, but such simple things get old when you eat them all the time. Though I even ate my vegetables and found their flavours fine, my boredom with these basic tastes inched closer every day. I tried the foods of other countries, even haggis and its ilk, but still I was not satisfied with these tastes from far away. What I craved was something more, something viscerally exciting, a meal I could make myself without a recipe in writing. It needed to be bold in taste with complexity of texture, with the slightest hint of savagery and a pinch of salt for flavor. You see I’ve finally found it, a meal that I can savor, and its standing right before me exhibiting curious behavior. Now’s the best part, my favorite time of the day. Twelve o’clock on the dot, it’s LUNCHTIME. Won’t you stay?

REDPILL serves up a delicious new EP on EATBRAIN with the release of LUNCHTIME, following up the Call of the Warchief EP which started the year for him on the label. The five track EP features his uniquely horror infused sound in full, as well as a collaboration with neurofunk champion MERIKAN aptly entitled CHILDREN OF CHAOS, which rages upon the strength of its furious bassline and fast paced snares. The titular LUNCH TIME features monstrous vocal intoned with evil intent, whilst the syncopated rhythms of BOOM BOOM create explosive shockwaves as the EPs second track. AND THE HERO WILL FALL narrates a tragic epic with its grand arpeggios and harmonic bass and is followed by the aforementioned collaboration before FUSION synthesizes the disparate aspects of the EP within a single track. Placing singular focus on his sinister sound, LUNCHTIME shows REDPILL operating at peak performance.

Drumsound & Bassline Smith & Tantrum Desire- The Bomb [Technique Recordings]

Given that Tantrum Desire has been one of the leading lights of Drumsound & Bassline Smith’s Technique Recordings for years, it’s surprising that there have been relatively few collaborations between them. So, since the announcement of their Technique International Sound live team-up, we’ve been breathlessly hoping that meant more DBS x TD sonic monsters would escape into the wild. And our prayers have been answered.

Now, if you’re calling a track “The Bomb”, you’re clearly not here to play around. And, as this is the first time we’ve seen the Technique bosses’ names on a track alongside Tantrum Desire’s since their dynamite remix of TD’s “Pump”, expectations are skyscraper high.

As wailing sirens, militant percussion, and an almost orchestral assault of bass explode onto the scene, we’ve got an intro to make you sit up and take notice straight from bar number one. Then that gigantic, multi-stage, acid-flavoured rise towards the drop means that whatever’s on its way is already worthy of a wheel up.

And then “The Bomb” drops. Steel-toed kicks and jaw-breaking snares hit hard, but they’re light on their feet, bouncing syncopated rhythms over the savagery of the bassline. And this tune isn’t done yet. Another huge build switches up the focus and delivers us into strident, glistening stabs to keep the vibe heated.

This is a monumental release from a group of producers who, even after all this time in the top tier, are still able to find new ways to light up a rave. It’s multiple-megaton DnB.

Agressor Bunx- Death Meadow [Eatbrain]

The remnants of the great battle lay strewn as shreds across the meadow, the multi-faceted carcass of a climatic moment of a conflict long forgotten. The remains of those who had fought for their respective worthless causes now overshadowed by the bleak visage of fate. Legends spoke of the battle as the only one known to have occured with no victor. Each warrior slain on one side was said to be repaid by the death of his equal on the other, as though the melee was arbitrated by some unnatural force. At the battle’s termination there remained none but the two great leaders of the factions, who continued their personal onslaught through the strength of their intense hatred alone. Amongst the corpses of their compatriots they dueled, equally matched in both skill and fury and finally, equally they fell, each slipping his opponent’s guard in the same instant, as both felt their sword plunge through the other’s heart. The place was twice cursed it was told, once by the unnatural force that had presided over the slaughter, and once by the slaughter itself. Unlike most of their kind, these legends held truth, for this field was the lair of the malevolent AGRESSOR.

The being had lurked there from time immemorial, its existence a relic of a long forgotten age. Condemned to this waste for its timeless aggression, it had lingered on beyond the disappearance of its kind. Its hunger for anguish lured countless warriors to its meadow, their conflict a delectable feast for the spirit unseen. From each fallen fighter was riven its emotion, strengthening the being as it continued to feed. The magnitude of the battle had sated it for some time, and it would slumber again through multiple ages of man until that hunger arose once again… and when it did, the DEATH MEADOW would lure souls afresh.

AGRESSOR BUNX returns to the EATBRAIN label following the summer’s assault of the Massacre EP, with the release of the DEATH MEADOW EP. A five track EP featuring their characteristic subgenre spanning style, with DEATH MEADOW being a masterclass in the AGRESSOR BUNX sound. DEATH MEADOW’s ominous and cinematic atmosphere introduces the EP with grandeur alongside a rapid fire drumbeat, whilst the sinister saws of OFFENSIVE back its bassline fueled audio assault. PARARAMPAM provides a boisterous combo of sonics that amplify its rowdy atmosphere, and is followed by the roaring bass of STEP IT TO THE FRONT which struts with full funk fueled effect. TIME TO ROCK closes the EP with a fusion of styles, its neurofunk assault slowed to a heavy halftime pace before charging forwards to the finish. With DEATH MEADOW, AGRESSOR BUNX continue to exhibit their skills in creating their unique synthesis of disparate DNB sounds.
