It has been announced today that the best known Drum and Bass record label RAM RECORDS has been acquired by Sony BMG.
At the time of announcing the effective takeover it has been stated that all currently scheduled releases will continue as planned.
Ram Records was established in 1992 by the world famous Andy C. Until now it was run by both Andy C and business partner Scott Bourne (Red One). It is unclear at this stage how much involvement they will have as the acquisition unfolds in the coming months.
Current artists on the Ram Records roster –
Calyx & TeeBee
Chase & Status
Loadstar (Xample & Lomax)
It is unknown each of their positions within the new BMG/Ram branding, so watch this space for more details as they are known! You can also check the RAM RECORDS website for more details.
Andy C’s ‘New Era’ is his first original material since 2014. New music from Andy is always regarded as a big event within electronic music, and the chorus that met the first spin of ‘New Era’ via MistaJam on Radio 1 proved that fans’ appetite was as hungry as ever. One for the clubs, ‘New Era’ is set for release on his RAM Records imprint, with a further release on Atlantic Records scheduled for later this year.
Andy’s last single was ‘Heartbeat Loud’ ft. Fiora, for Atlantic. Andy’s remix of DJ S.K.T. ‘Take Me Away’ was his first since remixes for Rudimental (‘Right Here’), Major Lazer (Andy’s remix of ‘Get Free’ was B-listed by Radio 1) and London Grammar. In 2015, he also released an unofficial remix of Jack U’s ‘Take U There’, one of the most sought after highlights of his DJ sets.
Andy C’s milestone show for the coming months is his biggest solo UK gig to date, an ‘All Night’ event at London’s legendary Alexandra Palace on 24th March 2016 for 10,000 people. Across 2016 he’ll tour Asia, South Africa, Australia, North and South America, and Europe, before hitting the UK festival circuit.
His last London date, the O2 Academy Brixton in October, sold out in just 10 minutes (over 10,000 people signed up for tickets), and was the opening show in his winter ‘All Night’ UK tour which then took in Motion in Bristol, Birmingham’s Rainbow Warehouse, and Newcastle’s Digital, Manchester’s Warehouse Project, and beyond.
The first editions of his ‘All Night’ tour in February and March of 2015 also sold out, as did his headline EU tours. He finished off his biggest festival season yet with Bank Holiday appearances at SW4 and Creamfields, plus further headline slots at Glastonbury (for the Essential Mix live), his debut at V, Wildlife (where he was the only d&b artist at the festival), and Parklife.
Elsewhere in 2015, Andy’s international festivals included events in Las Vegas, South Korea (at the Olympic Stadium in Seoul to 30,000 people), Belgium, Australia, Czech Republic, Spain, Romania, Canada (Toronto), and the Caribbean, plus an extensive US tour that included Ultra Miami. His Ibiza dates included a monthly residency at Together at Amnesia Ibiza.
DnBShare.Com – Celebrating 10 years of Free Drum and Bass Downloads #WeLoveDnBShare
It seems almost like yesterday every DJ around the world found somewhere to upload and share their mixes. The site has kept its very minimal look with only very minor updates, as the original was simply PERFECT for what was needed!
Of course like any site it has its flaws (they would call them features), your mix would only stay on their database as long as it was receiving downloads. Its fair enough really as disk space maybe cheap these days, but it doesnt pay for itself! And maybe also that searching for something is a bit simplistic (it works 100%, but maybe could be better)
Advertising on the site has always been kept to a single standard rotating banner which on many occasions actually has some products Ive been interested in and purchased.
Basically the site has been there almost constantly (i remember 1 glitch 2-3 years ago it was down for a day), and been relied upon by DJs around the world since 2006.
That day when the site did go down a few years ago was around the time when Chemical Records closed down I think, and it made me think of the importance to the DnB Scene DnBShare.com actually is!!! Could DJs live without it? What alternatives are there out there? Mixcloud and Soundcloud may all look very nice, but they are hugely more complicated to put in track names, maybe pay a fee, graphics and artwork, description, hashtags etc etc when all a DJ wants to do is upload a mix and share a link !!!
We are not sure the exact date when DNBSHARE.COM came into existance in 2006, but it also could be regarded as a timeline of the Drum and Bass scene around the world, featuring the headline DJ acts, seeing the evolution of internet radio stations both past and present, as well as sets from bedroom DJs around the world, or producers trying to get their music heard. Weve done a search for mixes we have featured here on drumandbasslines.com over the last few years and come up with the following historical DnB gems you can download for free from the links below direct from the dnbshare.com website. Heres a collection of the best from the nineties- GRAB THEM WHILE YOU CAN :
In recognition of the service DnBShare has done the community, we would like to propose a hashtag
for DJs, producers or fans to use when they upload a mix or track to the dnbshare.com site. This hashtag then pushes dnbshare fully onto Twitter and Facebook as well, and gives people an easy hashtag to search for new downloads for the next 10 years.
Share the hashtag, share this post, and help spread the word!
CONGRATULATIONS DnBSHARE.COM !!! LOOKING FORWARD TO ANOTHER 10 YEARS !!
