Ed Solo and Deekline have spent the better part of two decades at the forefront of bass music. Not only have they been champions of the most raw and dirty beats, many would go so far as to say they are some of the architects of the ragga Jungle sound. These two bad boys have consistently pushed the envelope in new and exciting ways, and are steadfast in their ability to look into the future while always paying homage to their roots. They’re legendary for their skanky riddims as the low end technicians behind classic tunes like “Bad Boys” and “King Of the Bongo.”

They’ve returned to drop science on the masses for the 5th installment of the Welcome to the Jungle series, which has now become a flash point for the freshest and most forward thinking sounds in the genre. Spread across 2 dynamic mixes the boys lay down the bass in an aural journey through dirtnasty bass and crispy clean rhythms.

The Jungle Cakes crew always pays intensely close attention to detail, and only selects tunes that are both teeth rattling and forward thinking. Industry heavyweights like Serum, Bladerunner, Serial Killaz, Benny Page and JFB have all laid down the weight contributing their best beats to knock the subs. Of course No Jungle Cakes compilation would be complete without a dizzying array of edits, remixes and originals from the bad boys themselves: Deekline and Ed Solo. Like the four comps before it, this is destined to become a future classic.

Its hulking form loomed impressively over the landscape with silent menace, intricately laced with the forbidden technology of its inherent design – discrete but powerful audio weaponry blisters in low profile across its chassis. Its journey from the depths of the continent to the crucible of Europe had been arduous, following the densely interwoven fiber stands laid down by the Controller itself, webbed across the hemisphere to gather sonic intel from the core label habitats and to signal the gathering once per cycle at the apogee of solar proximity. With the arrival of that signal, the EATBRAIN cluster had erupted in a frenzy of activity, initiating the activation sequences planned by their greatest minds. An upload of the entire population into the vast mechanism of their creation, a design with the pure objective of sonic decimation at the LIR battle royale. It stood there against the skyline looking down at that sector, the Controller’s ship setting down in the dust of the ancient, abandoned military base, the arriving vessel unfurling resonators and speaker stacks primed with off-world mechanisms. Without hesitation the vast Eatbrain mecha issued its sequence of final checks, loading the audio assimilation interface destined to annihilate all below and took a stride towards the awaiting masses.

EATBRAIN deliver their second tight package of pure neurofunk energy for the LIR EP, signalling their unwavering intent to deliver an ultimate selection of high-end drum & bass at Europe’s largest drum & bass festival. Featuring blinding audio weaponry from neurofunk pioneer CHRIS.SU, the colourful but mighty arena energy of MOB TACTICS and Eatbrain veterans ZOMBIE CATS, alongside fresh but highly significant creators in the form of MALUX and SYNERGY – this is an EP carved out by a label at the top of its game in preparation to deliver an intense night of sonic mayhem of the kind that the label is known and loved for.

Soul Trader Records Presents- Centrik: Beloved EP

To get more of the very latest news faster than anyone then subscribe to our feed : CLICK HERE

Release after release, Soul Trader Records uphold their longstanding record for unleashing only the most technically adept, deeply melodic cuts available to them from their expanding roster. They began from humble beginnings, an independent London imprint who favoured artist integrity over the spotlight, although this favouring has ensured their pride of place within the scene’s underground. And with every fresh track they drop onto an unsuspecting drum & bass crowd, they become even more entrenched within the genre’s fabric, their name growing steadily. From tastemakers like London Electrikity to DJ Marky, through to large-scale channels such as UKF and Drum & Bass Arena, they’ve received a plethora of support from all the right platforms. And this will continue into the summer, with a stunning three-part EP from liquid stalwart Centrik.

‘Beloved’ is up first, with a slowly meandering bassline which pitches between each rolling drum loop. Floating female vocals sift through the mix like a spectre, before piano notes add a heart-felt melody which nods to the vibe prevalent throughout each one of the artist’s productions. You’re instantly made aware of why Soul Trader Records brought Centrik on board; he fit perfectly within their refined sound, with an empathetic, beautifully constructed record that plucks at the heart strings.

‘Flourish’ features a manufacturing line of skittering drums and moodily distorted bass which raises its head moodily throughout the track’s composition, giving it a sharper tone than its predecessor. Nevertheless, ‘Flourish’ is a soul-soothing, expertly created late-night starter which demonstrates Centrik’s ability to switch up his softer productions Each twist of bass is as unexpected at the last, proving that despite his harmonious undertones he’s still able to shake a crowd.

Finally, ‘Perceive’ moves through rising synth patterns and ethereal voice overtures delicately moving amongst the record. The vocals mix amongst cascading drums and scuttling percussion to provide a euphoric edge, a skill which Centrik capitalises on from the EP’s beginning to end. It’s an example of how he’s given an introspective look into his studio talent. As a relative newcomer to the drum & bass world, the ‘Beloved EP’ will certainly stand out as a milestone for his career.

Loadstar – Give Yourself

Loadstar’s ‘Give Yourself’ is the kind of signature d&b tear-up that Nick and Gavin are laying waste to festival soundsystems with this summer, and the next track from their second album, which will be released this autumn.

‘Give Yourself’ follows recent singles ‘Diamonds’ (feat. Takura), and ‘I Need The Night’, the lead track which was also accompanied by ‘Guerilla’, and a storming house rework of ‘INTN’ from Dismantle. These album tracks have so far been hammered by the likes of Target, Friction, Danny Howard, Annie Nightingale, Julie Adenuga, and many more, setting a great precedent for their long-awaited sophomore release.
