What is time? An illusion or a constant?A fourth dimension or a simple measure?

What we know is, there is no past and there is no future. There is one single moment where sparks exist. One moment where life can grow.

No other time, no other road. The only time to be is now.  Light your fire. Glow…

New Release – Dubstitutes – Fear Nothing EP

There are amen breaks galore on the new record from the NexGen Music Group stable, the jungle-inspired Fear Nothing EP from Dubstitutes.

The duo is a collaboration between drum & bass veteran Rob Sparx and MC Task – who have released music on NexGen’s sister label Migration – and the four tracks that make up their EP wear ragga and jungle influences proudly on their sleeve.

Amen breaks are a constant across the record, which dives from catchy vocals on ‘Takeover’ to plunging basslines on ‘Another Future’. Check out the fresh tracks here, and head over to https://www.nexgenmusicgroup.com/ to grab the EP.

Toronto Is Broken – Make Me Feel / Trying To Find Home

Christian Hoffmann – aka Toronto Is Broken – is a name that’ll be on many a Drum and Bass fans’ lips this summer. Hailing from the UK, the producer is quickly gaining attention in the bass music world for his unique sound and experimental edge; not to mention his ability to conjure up a seriously club-worthy hit. Since his debut EP ‘Move It’ made a big impact in 2012, Toronto Is Broken’s already impressive track record has seen him garner support from some of the industry’s biggest names.

This year will see the release of the producer’s second album, following the huge success of his ‘Section Nine’ LP in 2015. Now, off the back of more recent tracks ‘Voyager II’ and ‘No Gyal Tune’, Toronto Is Broken releases the very first single from his upcoming LP on Viper Recordings: ‘Make Me Feel / Trying To Find Home’.

First up, ‘Make Me Feel’ wastes no time in giving us a taste of what this artist is capable of, blending together his trademark power-fuelled drums with a murky, tech-infused bassline. Dark and dangerous, it’s clear that this track will be blowing plenty of speakers over coming months.

On the flip, ‘Trying To Find Home’ highlights a softer side of the producer’s capabilities, merging atmospheric vocals with a euphoric, reflective composition.

With his album ‘You Are (Not) Alone’ set to drop later this year, stay tuned for more unique beats and bass appeal from Toronto Is Broken in 2017 and beyond.

Tantrum Desire – Gravitate (Technique Summer LP Sampler 2)

It’s official. Technique have already kicked off shorts-and- sunshine season with the first taste of their Summer LP, in the form of Drumsound & Bassline Smith’s Holdin On. But, just in case you were still hesitating before drawing for the bikini and sun tan lotion, here’s the confirmation you were looking for. Summer’s here, and Tantrum Desire’s here with another slice of the album to prove it.

Gravitate opens into a darker-tinged soundscape than you might expect from a tune from a summer album. Evolving pads punctuated by tension-building synth-pizzicato and hints of percussion establish a shadow-laden atmosphere. As a vocal melody filters in, though, we see a chink of light, with a sheen of soul layered onto the sound. Then the darkness all makes sense, as we’re delivered expertly into the red glow of festival-at-sunset vibes.

The drop gives us that Tantrum Desire goodness that we all love. Rolling drums and a bouncing bomb-burst of a bassline keep the party moving, with the eponymous “Gravitate” sample making this instantly recognisable. And then there’s the sophisticated subtlety of little builds and risers to keep the energy at maximum. When the pads come back in to lead us into the breakdown, there’s a whole new dimension of hands in the air euphoria added. This is a tune perfectly designed for those main stage summer-night moments.

We’ve been treated to two cuts from this year’s Summer LP now, and Technique have brought out the big guns early. If previous compilations are anything to go by, though, even heavyweight pieces like this will only be a small fraction of what the full project has to offer. So, whatever the weather, it looks like this summer’s getting a serious dose of heat. Get it here.

Naibu remixes Silent Dust (none60)

Naibu remixes Silent Dust (none60)

Parisian producer Naibu has twisted two hip-hop flavoured cuts from UK genre-manglers Silent Dust into elegant chunks of drum & bass.

Nearly ten years into a career which has seen radio support from the likes of Fabio, London Elektricity and Goldie, Naibu brings a touch of the class his native city is known for to his remixes of ‘My Only Option’ by Silent Dust ft. SelfSays & Jon1st and ‘Population, Me’ by Silent Dust ft. SelfSays.

Keeping the hip-hop feel intact, Naibu adds a solid d&b foundation to ‘My Only Option’, and transforms ‘Population, Me’ into a liquid-tinged roller powered by the voice of Michigan’s own SelfSays.
