Rido- Rido & The Gang EP [Eatbrain]

The four men sat atop the ruined husk of their city, basking in the absurdity of their own survival in the face of such utter destruction. Their laughter echoed sharply off of the barren concrete that fell around them as leaves in autumn, it’s tone reflecting the strength of their shared bond and amplified by the strength of their shared drink. They looked out over the city through the gap where a wall had once stood, before being torn asunder by a hulking reptilian beast that had passed through town some months ago. Their city seemed plagued by such things, with news of mysterious propaganda machines, corrupt criminal cabals, and strange biomechanical overlords coming to light in the months that had followed that initial disaster. As their gazes wandered through the crumbling towers of the city, the sky began to glow with an eerie red light.

Before them, a rain of meteors swept through the sky, streaking towards one of the last untouched monuments of their civilization. Noticing this, the men calmly exchanged glances, calmly regarding each other as they waited for someone to be the first to break. A cacophonous roar interjected shortly thereafter as the first of the stones made impact deep within the city and the resulting tremor shook the men from their contest at once. As each scrambled to remain balanced in his chair and to retain the balance of the wine in his hand, they erupted into laughter once more at the acrobatic antics of their comrades. Returning their attention to the recent impact, they stared calmly at the approaching cloud of debris with detached confidence. With almost choreographed precision each donned a pair of sunglasses before raising their glasses in a cheer. Were there an outside observer, they may have regarded the men as fools. However, there was none, and they were not. For those who had withstood such a litany of destruction, what threat was a meteor shower? RIDO & THE GANG would come out on top. They always did.

RIDO makes his EATBRAIN debut and brings THE GANG with him for a collaborative EP featuring JOE FORD, COUNTERSTRIKE, and EATBRAIN label boss JADE as he displays his wide ranging sonic ability over four tracks on the RIDO & THE GANG EP. RIDO first takes center stage with the mysterious STRANGER which features his unique blend of melodics and fast paced sweeping basslines. JOE FORD then joins forces with RIDO for BLUEPRINT, adding his inimitable & otherworldly sonic textures to the mix for a driving bassline assault. COUNTERSTRIKE bring their trademark irreverence and hard edged sound to DA F_K, combining with RIDO to create a profaned bassline worthy of the track’s name. The EP is then closed by THE MAZE, a collaboration with JADE narrated by a psychosis inducing vocal. Arriving with THE GANG at his back, RIDO steps up to his EATBRAIN debut with effortless power and presence.

Current Value & MISSIN- SENTINEL 001 [Methlab]

MethLab proudly launch the first advance single from their upcoming SENTINEL VA LP, a release that encompasses almost the entire MethLab roster, plus some special guests, and serves as the companion to MethLab // SENTINEL Tour, recently announced by UKF. Leading with an immense pair of tracks from veteran CURRENT VALUE and highly exciting newcomer MISSIN, the first single from an LP that’s set to be unforgettable, lands with a mighty bass shock, setting the scene for the audio voyage that’s yet to come.

Methlab brought Drum & Bass fans a present for Christmas with the release of the first single from the upcoming SENTINEL VA featuring a pair of powerful tracks by CURRENT VALUE & MISSIN. ISOTROPY features CURRENT VALUE’s distinctive & dynamic sonic palette, contrasting a beautiful & gliding melodic section with a furious flurry of sonic force as it shifts between the two extremes in an instant. MISSIN’s SPLIT is by contrast more direct with its intention, maintaining an ominous atmosphere which builds into a powerful halftime drop so characteristic of his sound.

Together, the two tracks are an exciting taste of what’s to come on the full SENTINEL VA, which is due out in 2019 on METHLAB RECORDINGS, featuring the talents of the labels roster nearly in full across its full breadth.

Synged- Vanish in the Deep EP [IN:DEEP]

SYNGED premieres his debut EP on IN:DEEP Music with the release of the VANISH IN THE DEEP EP. A rising talent within the Austrian drum & bass scene, 19 year old SYNGED spent much of his childhood in his father’s music studio learning the skills that now propel his career forwards to this day. After starting to make his own music at the young age of 12, SYNGED quickly found his passion for Drum & Bass and has not looked back since. Now, he brings his debut EP to IN:DEEP for a full display of his subtly energetic sound.

SAY WHAT’s sirens open the EP with a dark atmosphere before plunging into a deep & stripped back beat augmented by the interjections of tech influenced bases. The titular VANISH IN THE DEEP intensifies the attitude of its predecessor, diverting additional attention to its booming drumbeat whilst still retaining its carefully crafted depths. O2 closes the EP as it breathes with anticipation, snapping to nothingness before strutting out with a funk fueled beat driven by a colorful snare.

With the VANISH IN THE DEEP EP, SYNGED makes a powerful debut as a rising producer on the IN:DEEP RECORDINGS label. Within, his precise sound is exemplified in full, spotlighting SYNGED within as a rising name within Drum & Bass.

Drumsound & Bassline Smith- Booyaka EP [Technique Recordings]

We’ve barely had time to catch our breath after the shattering impact of “The Bomb”, Drumsound & Bassline Smith’s huge collaboration with Tantrum Desire. Even so, the Technique bosses are already back with a four-track EP containing ammo straight from their tried and tested dubplate armoury.

The title track “Booyaka” opens in an unsettling landscape of retro sci fi tension, as pads and bleeps ride the building percussion. The approach of mayhem is signalled by thunderclap kicks exploding through the system, and it’s time for all real ravers to step forward. Surging waves of bass crash into the dance, and as Drumsound & Bassline Smith add evolving layers of breaks into the mix to hype things further, it’s game over.

“Unity” is infused with the flavours of jazz, soul, and funk as horns, keys, guitar licks, and vocal stabs set the tone in the intro. Just in case you were expecting some laid-back liquid groove, though, DBS quickly dispel that idea with a kick-build that delivers us right into high-energy mode. Those infectiously bubbling basslines and rolling drums could only have come from producers steeped in the jungle foundations. This is a classic-style roller that’s perfectly configured for 2019 dancefloors.

Next, the soaringly epic opening of “Straight from the Underground”, made from subtle hints of percussion and sweeping choral timbres delivers a hands in the air moment that’s going to have deejays everywhere wheeling up to run it from the top. When Drumsound & Bassline Smith suddenly throw in an angst-inducing discord and a dramatic build that drops into twisting and modulating bassline savagery, absolute banger status is assured.

“Mash it Up” is a stone-cold killer. Militant drums and anthemic orchestral chords immediately let us know this is warrior music. Drumsound & Bassline Smith aren’t playing. As the eponymous vocal clip leads us into the drop, we’re assaulted with a multi-strike combo of evolving basslines and break-laden drums. Taking elements from jungle and neuro, they’ve created something fresh that’s going to hurt you whatever your sub-genre of choice. You’re going to want to check this.

Drumsound & Bassline Smith’s precision-tooled basses and high-energy break deployment are well known, and their craft really comes to the fore on this EP. There’s high-level studio science at work here, married perfectly with a natural, raw, junglist vibe. That’s why the “Booyaka EP” is going to connect with real DnB heads everywhere.

Sikey & Speedwagon- Misty Eyed Dub EP [Space Pirate Recordings]

In the very earliest days of Space Pirateering, rocketbuilding and asteroid mining in the BE-32 nebula, only a
select few were already firing breakbeat arrays and bass cannons at the humanoids on this mud rock. That
they were carving the first signs of a path many would walk behind them, they did not know.

Both Sikey & Speedwagon have been at the forefront of Belgium’s (the local designation for the BE-32 nebula)
drum & bass scene since the last turn of the centuries. After having served the deities of 170BPM as solo
buccaneers and in different formations, they teamed up to form a production unit that would honour the
vibrations brought forth by the earliest of Pirates. Not having traded their organic limbs for the powers of the
plasma snare or the quadruple frequency modulated, planet-core-melting reecelines, the duo’s output vibes
like only a real mud rock can.

Misty Eyed Dub is their ode to the sacred tree they originally needed to destroy during the “Planet 47 Heist”
mission. However, upon learning that this tree was the original source of life and vibrations on Planet 47, these
space pirates decided to put the sustained existence of the sacred misty eyed tree above their own interests
and left it to flourish so the planet would continue to be a sacred home for all lifeforms on the rock.

Get Vile is the musical counterpart to Misty Eyed Dub. Although consistent in dubby vibes and rolling rock
formations, Get Vile paints a slightly darker picture of the very same mission. Initially composed as a song of
war, after first contact with the strange life on Planet 47, its message became redundant, although the music
itself did not and now serves on many Space Pirate ships as a reminder to above all learn and not assume,
despite whatever their initial mission targets were so to adhere to the Space Pirate credo: “Good Pirates Break
Bad Rules”.
