Regarded as one of the world’s leading and most respected drum & bass DJ’s, Friction gets set to deliver what may just be his biggest release to date. Arriving on the newly formed Elevate Audio, the ‘Dare EP’ is a defiantly dance floor 4-tracker reaching across the D&B spectrum to lead with the enormous, big room tear-out track, ‘Dare (Hold It Down)’.
“About a year ago I was sat listening to ‘Dare’ by Gorillaz and I had this sudden idea that the vocal might work well on a D&B track. I began putting my own little bootleg together to play at my shows and over the last 6 months or so it’s been getting some great crowd reactions. So much so that we thought we should try and make it official.
We got in touch with Gorillaz and their original vocalist Roses Gabor aka Noodle to ask her to re-sing it. Amazingly she did, they loved it, we loved it and here we are today! I’m really pleased with it, it’s such a great hook but I’ve kept the music quite tough at the same time so it really does the business on the dance floors.
I’ve also been working on a lot of other music, so alongside ‘Dare’ we’ve included some slightly different, more underground tracks including ‘Find Our Way’, a collaboration with Digital Farm Animals that I’m also really happy with and keen to get out there. Expect a lot more from me this year and next!”
On Elevate Audio… “People that listen to my Radio 1 show know I’m a huge fan of all styles of drum & bass and a lot of the time I find myself making more hi-energy music that might not necessarily sit so well within the Shogun sound. So realising the solution we decided to set up Elevate Audio as a platform that will run alongside Shogun allowing us to release more straight up, uncompromising, dance floor D&B.” Friction 2016
